Our History
The property where the Novadell community and golf club now stands has a long and colorful history in Hopkinsville, Ky. In 1913, the W.B. Anderson family of Hopkinsville purchased the then-closed Acme Mills from some local businessmen headed by George Dalton. The Andersons expanded and reopened the mills, which produced Veribest Flour, shipped to all parts of the United States. Veribest was called “The Whitest Flour in the World” long before the slogan was made famous by the call letters of the Acme Mills’ radio station –WFIW, one of Kentucky’s first stations.
While working for the mills, a German immigrant, Hal C. Fifer, had developed and patented the whitening process for Acme’s flour. That process was patented under the name “Novadell.”
At the time all this was going on, W.B. Anderson, Jr., 35, served as president of Acme Mills and was one of the youngest men in the country to head such an operation. During the Great Depression, Anderson bought the first of two farms in the area from the New York Life Insurance Co. The farms were excellent wheat producers, and he appropriately called them by the name Novadell.
In 1997, Anderson’s sons Billy, Bobby and Phelps sold Novadell to local investors, who developed our present golfing community on the site. Although many different names for the project were considered, “Novadell” and “The Links at Novadell” proved to be the most popular choices and help enhance our remembrance of the rich historical traditions of Christian County, Ky. Novadell and The Links have become an outstanding place to live and to play.
The Novadell Development was constructed on 830 acres on Kentucky farmland acquired from Mr. Anderson that has white fences, picturesque barns, sparkling lakes and a sea of wheat rolling in the always present breeze. Since its grand opening in 2002 and into present day, Novadell has become Southern living at its best fitting perfect for both the young and the young at heart. There’s a serene and unsurpassed beauty in our community and our course that will make it hard for you not to adopt the “Novadell” way of living. It’s an excellent place to call home, enjoy fine dining and fine recreation on our championship par-72 golf course.
Our semi-private course, The Links at Novadell, designed by architect Don Charles of Winston-Salem, N.C., is the crown jewel of this development. The Links is stretched out around the clubhouse and amid the Novadell community on beautiful rolling farmland with open driving areas, tall natural grasses, and strategically place pot bunkers and winds that sweep across the land giving our 18 holes the flavor of a links course. You are almost guaranteed a peaceful and elegant round on a very unique golf design for this area.
